    The Cretan rusks are among the most well-known and popular traditional Greek products. In the recent years, when the value of the Mediterranean diet has been highly appreciated, they claim their regular place on the menu. The rusk is the basic ingredient of the well-known traditional Cretan snack “dakos”, also known as “koukouvagia” (Greek for “owl”). You chop tomato onto the rusk, which can either be soaked or not, and on top of the tomato you crumble feta cheese or any other kind of white cheese. The dakos is complete when you add a generous portion of olive oil, salt and oregano or caper.
